Botox (for Underarm Sweating)

Frequently Asked Questions about Botox for Severe Underarm Sweating

What is primary axillary hyperhidrosis?
It’s a medical condition that involves overactive sweat glands and causes severe underarm sweating.

Do I have primary axillary hyperhidrosis that can be treated with Botox?

If your underarm sweating is intolerable and significantly interfering with your daily activities, Botox may be right for you.

Can Botox help my underarm sweating?
Botox is FDA-approved for severe underarm sweating that is not adequately managed with topical agents. Botox treatment helps to control hyperhidrosis by temporarily blocking the chemical signals from the nerves that stimulate the sweat glands. When the sweat glands don't receive chemical signals, the severe sweating stops.

How effective is Botox treatment for underarm sweating?

Botox treatments are very effective. In one clinical study involving 322 patients with severe underarm sweating: • 91% of Botox treated patients achieved a greater than 50% reduction in sweating.

What do I need to do before the treatment?

It is very important that patients shave underarms and abstain from use of over-the-counter deodorants or antiperspirants for 24 hours prior to the appointment.
